SWEBS: Schoolwide Effective Behavior System
ICS staff and students have developed a schoolwide effective behavior program: SWEBS. SWEBS reinforces our ICS expectations and helps students develop and sustain the strong character traits they’ll need to be productive, considerate, and responsible members of society.
SWEBS follows a behavior modeling approach. Teachers and staff model desired behavior, and students have opportunities to practice and be rewarded for the use of these skills. Students receive ICS All-Star tickets that are good for purchasing items from our mobile school store. Classroom teachers, specialists, administration, and non-teaching aides carry these tickets and award students they see demonstrating any of these expectations. The Dean of Students, assisted by a committee of teachers, carries out the program. Parent volunteers participate by delivering the mobile school store to the classrooms.
ICS also has a conflict resolution program.
ICS Expectations
ICS has created a citizen’s charter for all students, faculty, parents, and guardians to abide by. This charter is based on two basic themes: First is the understanding that all individuals in the ICS community will treat others with dignity, respect, kindness, and understanding. This is consistent with ICS’s mission to learn from and about people and cultures throughout the world. It is also consistent with a child’s right to receive an education in an environment free of conflict. The second is the idea that behavior, whether appropriate or inappropriate, is a choice, and all members of the ICS community will be responsible for their choice of behavior.
