W.I.N.G.S. Weekly Schedule and Clubhouse Details
Weekly activities - offered Monday through Thursday
Arts & crafts: Students work with the ICS art teacher on different three-dimensional projects, use sketchbooks, make clay models, and assist in the making of a travel map, as well as color, draw, and paint.
Board games: Students play and understand the strategy of games like chess, checkers, and other board games that require thought, skill, and problem-solving skills.
Computers: Students work on computers to learn computer basics.
Physical play: Students participate in indoor/outdoor organized sports where they learn the importance of teamwork, physical fitness, hand and eye coordination, and strategic planning.
Homework/study hall: Students receive academic assistance from our teaching staff. The homework/study hall will be offered to all grades, upon parents’ request.
W.I.N.G.S. Clubhouses - offered quarterly on Friday afternoons
Acting/creative dramatics: Students work with professional actors from Philadelphia on basic acting techniques, creative developments through emotions and physicality, and theater concepts. Development of a children’s script occurs in this class.
Journalism: This club focuses on writing skills as well as capturing images and developing photos for an ICS newspaper.
Contemporary dance: Students work with a professional choreographer and learn the basics of artistic movement, discipline, and the various styles of dance. Students are exposed to the different genres of music associated with the dance routines they learn.
Geography club: In collaboration with the Independence Branch Library, students meet one day out of the week to discuss the science dealing with the earth’s natural features, climate, resources, and population.
Yoga: Students study a system of exercises that teaches control of the body and mind to achieve spiritual insight and tranquility.
Sign language: Students study and understand the communication system using hand gestures.
Mural art: Students study the many techniques of mural art and participate in various mural art projects taught by professional muralist Samuel Meyerson.
