Onsite Resources
ICS is fortunate to have many onsite resources available to help your child and you when it’s needed: school counseling, onsite nurses, and special education.
School Counseling
Often, a child’s mental health affects their level of success in school. If they are feeling anxious, angry, or upset, their ability to focus on academics is compromised. On the other hand, when a child is content and at ease, they are able to concentrate and participate in learning.
Our school counselors can help with changes in your family, stress in your home, a sudden shift in your child’s behavior, your child’s peer relationships, or support in parenting. The following list outlines many of the ways that our counselors serve your child and family:
- Work with individual students as needed
- Provide small-group guidance and counseling for students with similar concerns
- Conduct interesting and relevant classroom guidance lessons on an as-needed basis
- Conduct follow-up consultation with teachers, parents, guardians, and staff
- Use and refer parents to outside services and agencies in the Philadelphia area
- Provide parent education through workshops
- Assist students in making the transition into and out of ICS
- Maintain a library of pertinent materials and information and make them available to students, staff, and parents
- Coordinate the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Partnership
- In partnership with VP Sean, Dean Andrea, Nurse Leslie, and Nurse Tamara, run the Girls’ Club (based on Club Ophelia), the Leadership Club, and the sexual education program (based on Planned Parenthood curriculum)
- Begin the high school search and application process with 7th and 8th graders

In addition to our onsite school counselors, ICS also has a consulting school psychologist.
School Nurse
ICS offers onsite hearing, vision, body mass index (BMI), and scoliolis screenings, in addition to other services. Please call or email Nurse Leslie for more information.
