Special Summer Lottery for ICS Spanish Immersion Program: Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8

Independence Charter School is pleased to announce that there are a limited number of openings in our Spanish Immersion Program for students in grades 3, 4,5,6,7, and 8 for the 2010-2011 school year.
If you are a Pennsylvania resident and have a child who is entering grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 and who is able to read, write and speak in Spanish, then they are eligible to be entered into the Special Summer Lottery for the Spanish Immersion Program in grades 3-8 at the award-winning Independence Charter School (ICS does NOT have any openings for kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grades, nor for any grades in the Spanish Enhanced program). Students in the ICS Spanish Immersion Program read from Spanish textbooks and write assignments in Spanish. Students in grades 3-8 spend at least half of their day in a total Spanish environment and half in an English based program. For this reason, students who are selected in the lottery will have to pass a test in Spanish, demonstrating the ability to function approximately at their grade level. This testing will be free of charge and will be conducted before an admission decision can be made.
Parents and guardians need to come to the school between 10a.m.-2p.m. Monday-Friday to complete the application. Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, July 30th, 2010 at 2p.m. The Special Lottery will take place on Tuesday, August 3rd at 12 noon. The lottery is open to the public; however, attendance at the lottery is not required.
LOTERÍA ESPECIAL DE VERANO PARA EL PROGRAMA DE INMERSIÓN EN ESPAÑOL DE ICS: GRADOS 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, y 8
Independence Charter School está contenta de anunciar que hay un número limitado de lugares disponibles en nuestro Programa de Inmersión en Español para estudiantes en los grados 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, y 8 para el año escolar 2010-2011.
Si Ud. es un habitante de Pensilvania y tiene un hijo o una hija que va a empezar los grados 3-8 y su hijo/a puede *LEER *ESCRIBIR y *HABLAR español, entonces tiene los requisitos necesarios para entrar la lotería especial de verano para nuestro Programa de Inmersión en Español para estudiantes en tercer grado hasta octavo grado en la escuela premiada de Independence Charter (NO hay vacantes para los estudiantes de kínder, primer grado, o segundo grado, ni para ningún grado de nuestro programa de Español Aumentado). Los estudiantes del programa de inmersión en español leen textos en español y escriben trabajos en español. Los estudiantes en los grados 3-8 gastan por lo menos la mitad del día en un ambiente total de español y la otra mitad en un programa basado en inglés. Por esta razón, los estudiantes que están elegidos en la lotería tendrán que aprobar un examen de español, demostrando la habilidad de desempeñar aproximadamente a su nivel escolar. Este examen es gratis y va a ser realizado antes de hacer una decisión final sobre ingreso.
Padres y guardianes deben venir a la escuela entre las horas de 10 a 2, lunes a viernes para completar una solicitud. Se debe entregar las solicitudes a más tardar el viernes, el 30 de julio de 2010, a las 2hs. La lotería especial tendrá lugar el martes, el 3 de agosto a las 12hs. La lotería especial está abierta al público; sin embargo, la asistencia no es obligatoria.
