Independence Charter to Seek Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Accreditation
October 23, 2009
The ICS Board of Trustees is excited to announce that we will undergo the rigorous (and entirely voluntary) accreditation process offered by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Middle States Accreditation is a widely-recognized and highly valued peer-review process that signals a public commitment to continuously improving educational quality and student performance. Middle States Accreditation is open to public and private schools of all sizes from Kindergarten through University-level and will place ICS in the company of outstanding educational institutions.
A Middle States Accredited school:
- Is devoted to its mission
- Knows itself
- Keeps its promises
- Accepts an objective peer evaluation
- Is recognized internationally
- Plans for the future
- Actively participates in the responsibilities of the profession
A Steering Committee, which will oversee the Self-study (a required part of the process) is being formed, and will be chaired by ICS founder and Board member Rebecca Baehr. Please look for updates on the process on this list, in Board meeting minutes and in the ICS Newsletter. In particular, look for opportunities to participate in the many sub-committees that will be formed to work on specific areas as we move through the process.
