New Building
May 2008 Construction Update
ICS hard hat tours allow many a sneak peek
In April, over 80 parents, teachers, staff, and neighbors toured our new building up close as part of our ICS hard hat tours. Guests learned of the building’s history while seeing how we’ll use its layout and facilities to support our curriculum. If you weren’t able to take a tour in April, keep watch for news of more tours to be scheduled over the summer.
Thank you to Stephanie Kindt, our tour organizer, and to all our tour guides: Cara Carroccia, Matt Drexler, Steve Gendler, Jurate Krokys, Kathy Kurtak, David Mazzacco, Conswelia McCourt, Rosina Miller, Kristin Nocco, Ellen Pannell, and Joe Winchester.
Middle school raises $400 for school yard
Middle school students, spurred into action by an idea of Wanya Anderson (5th grade), held a dress down day in April to raise funds for the greening of our school yard. Thanks to his idea and to all our ICS families who sent money with their children, $400 was raised. This money will be used to purchase a tree, making our yard a more beautiful and tranquil place to relax and unwind.
Construction crews stay on schedule
Meanwhile, our construction team continued their work. This past month, crews installed major equipment, such as the elevator, boiler, and roof top equipment. If you’ve driven or walked past, then you know that the addition is closed-up, with the “skin” of brick, stucco and metal panel to follow (see photo). Inside the existing building, crews are painting the classrooms, starting from the third floor and moving down.
Buy a brick
Now through May 23rd, you can support our school while commemorating a special event or memory by purchasing an engraved brick for $100. Bricks will become part of a walkway alongside the schoolyard.
