Directions to Independence Charter School
Independence Charter School (ICS) is located in Center City Philadelphia near the border of South Philadelphia and just a few blocks from historic Rittenhouse Square. ICS does not have a parking lot per se because we use it as the school playground during the school day. If you are visiting on a school day you will have to find parking in the vicinity. Because this is Center City, that task is not simple. You may find metered parking on South Street which is 1.5 blocks from our school. If you find non-metered street parking, be sure to check the signs so you are legal. Another option is to park in a lot or garage. One garage is located on 16th between Lombard and Pine. Another lot is located on Pine a couple of blocks from Broad Street. Most of us use public transportation. There are also bike racks in front of the school. Entrance to the school is on Lombard Street.
Public Transportation
Trains: Suburban station stop at Market and 16th, 10 minute walk to ICS, walking up 16th street toward Pine, etc. NJ Transit has stops along Locust which intersects with 16th.
Buses: Route 2 goes down 16th from South Philly toward the Center. Route 2 also goes up 17th toward South Philly.
Subway: get off at the Lombard Street Stop. About a 7 minute walk to the school.
If You Are Driving
On a non-student school day, you may park on most occasions in the schoolyard which is located behind the school on Naudain Street. Naudain is parallel to Lombard and intersects 16th and 17th. Otherwise please see the note above for parking on the street/lot.
From center city or 676:
Approach from any numbered street going South such as 17th or 15th. From 17th , pass Lombard and turn your first left onto Naudain. Proceed to the schoolyard.
From South Philadelphia or I-95:
You can take the Washington Avenue exit. Proceed up Washington Ave. passing Broad Street. After Broad Street, look for 16th street. Turn right, proceed to 16th and Lombard which will be on the other side of South Street.
