Independence Charter School

Rona Buchalter has been an ICS parent since 2004 and a member of the Curriculum Committee since 2006. She currently serves as Board President.  She has two children enrolled in the Spanish Immersion program at ICS. Rona received a B.S. in Communication and Political Science from Northwestern University in Chicago and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, where her research focused on the interplay of narrative and group identity. Rona is currently the Fellowships Advisor for Drexel University where, through broad campus-wide education and individual intensive mentoring, she is working to build a culture in which students compete successfully for national and international awards such as Fulbright and Marshall. Rona also teaches classes at Penn’s Annenberg School for Communication and has taught Academic Writing at Swarthmore College. In addition, she consults with an array of schools and universities on program development. Rona lives with her husband and two children in the Bella Vista section of Philadelphia.
