Fine Arts

ICS students emerge as sophisticated, critical consumers and producers of art. Grades K-8 attend weekly art classes where they begin to understand art through the artist and his or her work. Students learn the language of art and the techniques for producing various styles of art. Students also discuss the influence of culture on the artist. Where possible, the fine arts program mirrors the country studies, so students perceive the country through a variety of angles. In the past, students have studied the Impressionists, Frida Kahlo, Peter Sibanda, and many others.

Grade 7 and 8 students have opportunities to meet with guest artists and to visit exhibitions. Graduating students applying to high schools that focus on the creative arts meet with the art teacher to prepare their personal portfolios for high school admissions.
