Work With the Board of Trustees

Parents can contribute to the work of the Board of Trustees (BOT) by being elected to a parent seat or by joining one of nine BOT committees.

BOT seats
The ICS BOT consists of 15 trustee seats:

  • Founder seats (9): Serve three-year terms; staggered to ensure continuity. Nominated by BOT.
  • Community seats (4): Filled by members of the community in cultural and educational organizations, businesses, and other nonprofit organizations. Serve two-year terms. Nominated by BOT.
  • Parent seats (2): Filled by parents and legal guardians of ICS students. Serve two-year terms; service is staggered. Nominated by annual election in April/May and reviewed at the June BOT monthly meeting.

Additionally, a nonvoting teacher seat is filled by a current member of ICS staff. This seat is a one-year term and is nominated by all ICS staff.

Committees
A large part of the BOT’s work happens through committee with the help of parent volunteers.

ICS’s nine BOT committees work on issues that directly affect our students’ daily experience and the school’s ability to realize its mission. Every committee is chaired by a member of the BOT, and with the exception of the Discipline and Human Resources committees, welcomes parent volunteers.

ICS encourages you to join a committee where you can lend your expertise and your voice. Your time commitment will depend upon your interest and availability. At a minimum, you can expect to attend a monthly or bimonthly committee meeting. To learn more about a particular committee, contact Megan Steelman.
